Being a bird hunter I have hunted with and with out dogs and have come to appreciate how much more enjoyable the hunt becomes with a trained hunting dog. I began guiding in the fall of 2004 at Highland Hideaway Hunt Club and have enjoyed the opportunities to meet all levels of hunters from so many different walks of life. Whether hunting with family, friends or coworkers I encourage you to experience the hunt behind quality hunting dogs.

I grew up in Oklahoma and Texas hunting quail. I have to admit, there is nothing quite like flushing a pheasant over a solid point. Ryan and everybody at Highland have put a lot of time and effort into creating a grade A establishment. From land management to service to accommodations, you won't get a better hunting experience. I enjoy it so much, I keep up a membership package so I can get out there as much as possible.

Wade Kisner

My first introduction to hunting involved chasing quail on my Granddad’s farm in Bates County Missouri in the mid sixties. Opening day was always spent working the four to five coveys that inhabited that 80 acres with Granddad and his pointer, Jack. I still remember the excitement when I got to carry my first shotgun, a 20 gauge, which although long retired still occupies a special place in my gun safe. Back then it was easy to find landowners willing to let you hunt and birds plentiful. It was during this time that I found that the dog work was the part of upland bird hunting that gave me the most pleasure. Watching a dog quartering a large field of CRP and slamming on point is what makes the hunt for me. In 2009 due to my retirement from a career in law enforcement I have been able to devote more time to the training of my own gun dog and was fortunate to have been given an opportunity to guide hunts at Highland Hideaway Gun Club. From the staff and guides associated with Highland I have learned the time and effort necessary to produce a finished gun dog and have been the beneficiary of their knowledge and experience. Through the process I have made a lot of life long friends and continue to meet great people with a similar love of the outdoors and hunting dogs. During the last two seasons at Highland I have had the opportunity to guide hunters from many states and have witnessed two 14 yr old hunters bag their first rooster over my setter, Lou. Trust me, it doesn’t get any better than that.

I am sure you will find the working dogs at Highland Hideaway Gun Club to be some of the very best in the business and hope you have an opportunity to join us in the field.

I have been proudly providing guide service to Highland Hideaway and Aiming for a Cure Foundation for the last couple of years. I am blessed to have an loving wife and three sons that love to hunt and love their hunting dogs. It is my desire to pass on the heritage of upland hunting in the Midwest to them. Being affiliated with a class operation like Highland gives me the honor of providing a hunt that is second to none. This is achieved through superior hunting grounds and outstanding customer attention and the overall experience provided to Highland clients. My personal goal is to provide an world class upland hunt and enjoy God’s great outdoors through a safe day afield. Scott Barron

As a kid opening pheasant season could not come quick enough, I have been pheasant hunting most of my life and each morning of the hunt I get just as giddy as I did when I was 10. I have always enjoyed the outdoors growing up in Iowa and currently reside in Vinton with my German shorthair pointers. I have been guiding with Highland since 2010 and Ron, Ryan and Kate do an exceptional job giving a hunter the best hunt possible.

My name is Donald (Don) Cross & I live near Newton, Ia.  I owned and operated my own Allis-Chalmers/AGCO business for 40 years and retired in 2006. I have worked for a guide for several game farms including Highland and Aiming for a Cure for the past couple of years.  I have always enjoyed people and the outdoors, hunting and fishing and especially working with my 4 German Shorthair Pointers.
